"Fierce Vulnerability"
with astrid montuclard
The Sanskrit word for "Direct Action" - Satyagraha - means "truth telling." Change being fractal, the question we will explore is "How can individual trauma healing transform a community through embodied truth-telling - and how can a community's own truth-telling bring about social change?"
In our time together, we will ground with a somatic and/or meditative practice exploring our relationship with what is true for us - and then spend some time discussing Fierce Vulnerability in the context of community living and trauma healing-based direct action.

Healing Your Ancestral Heritage
with Renae Hanson
Story sharing and exploring ideas and opening to new ways of understanding our lineage. Come with an open mind for this wonderful decolonizing work. Bring a journal and your stories of ancestors.
Facilitator Bio:
After getting a BA in literature and writing and then a PhD in cross-cultural education, Renae taught writing and global studies at Minneapolis College for 31 years. Since becoming Type 1 diabetic, she has discovered ways that personal body troubles can parallel ecosystem distress and help us rise to the challenge of both.I work for ecological justice and effective responses to climate trauma with her family, her students, her local Transition Town, Minnesota 350.org, Quaker communities.
She was born into a community of story-tellers; stories have been a way to explore, discover, comfort, and embolden. What she has learned from the wilderness woods and waters, she loves to share with others.

Navigate “Othering” for Engaged Community Change
Practice Group Series
Tuesdays 9/1, 9/22 10/6, 10/20 11/3, 11/17
4:30-6pm Pacific Time
with Ikela Lewis
This is a practice group series focused on cultivating mindfulness and compassion in the way we see other people, especially those who are oppressed or disregarded by society - and to use the cultivation of these qualities to make a practical difference within one’s community. Within this series, we will be following a model of “social prescribing” in which we support one another in kick-starting small projects to benefit our community - particularly those who sit on the periphery of our culture’s view. By holding a space of openness, kindness, and freedom, we aim to support one another in actualizing our heart’s calling to create meaningful change within this time of transition and uncertainty.
The goal of this series is for you to feel empowered with practical and tangible actions to support your community - fueled by the warmth of compassion and mindfulness. Please do arrive on time and come just as you are.
August 10th 4pm Pacific Time
Mindfulness and Compassion as Tools to Navigate "Othering" (Intro Presentation)
with Ikela Lewis
This Connection Cafe' overlaps with our Building Bridges work--to form authentic relationships across differences. We are hearing more and more about this term called "othering" which means the way we form perceptions, unconsciously and consciously, that make someone separate, often of of less value, than ourselves. In this gathering, mindfulness counselor Ikela Lewis will offer some tools to help us navigate a discussion on the ways we "other" each other, which is at the root of racism and inequality of all sorts. We will explore how we can be more conscious, proactive and mindful in the ways we see people outside our comfortable norms, especially those who have been in communities cast out, oppressed or denigrated.

July 13th: Yoga Nidra with Galen Meyers
Galen will guide us in a Yoga Nidra meditation. This is an excellent gathering for discovering, nurturing, and deepening your own meditation practice. Yoga Nidra is a sleep based meditation that uses a series of breath, body, and awareness techniques to restore balance to the nervous system. It is most often a guided practice that can help provide all of the health and well-being benefits of a more established meditative practice, without requiring the same level of advanced training or experience.
Yoga nidra is used all over the world, supported by scientific research, to enhance general well being and to help those suffering with PTSD, depression and anxiety, addiction, stress related illnesses, and much more. Yoga Nidra has the power to take you to the innermost, deepest levels of relaxation where your whole body and being is permeated by peace of mind and profound stillness. It unlocks the mystical, integrative powers of the subconscious, as well as your higher centers of consciousness, to effortlessly erase your most tenacious, self-destructive habits and behavior patterns. It is said by yogis that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as three hours of sleep.
We will briefly discuss the practice of Yoga Nidra and then we will have a full 40-45 minute session of guided meditation. Yoga Nidra is usually practiced lying down comfortably. Be prepared to lie down while being able to listen and follow the guidance.
What do I need to have? - Open heart & mind - Comfortable clothes - A safe, quiet space where you can lie down and listen, and will not be disturbed - Yoga mat (or 2, or 3), a soft floor, or a firm mattress - A light blanket, or sheet - Thin pillow - Eye mask or eye pillows are also recommended
Galen Meyers is a yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance. He is certified to guide the Integrative Amrit Method (“I AM”) Yoga Nidra by the Amrit Yoga Institute. Galen is co-founder of CAIPP.org and Common Ground Networks, and he serves on the Collaborative Design Council for Transition US and has been a member of the Inner Resilience Network team for over a year. June 8th, 2020: Inner Preparedness
with Jul Bystrova and Tobin McKee
Your service to positive change in our world is vital! And in order to keep going, we need you to be feeling vital. Burnout is not mandatory! Feeling good, and cultivating inspiration is a priority. In fact, putting all of our energy into our work, and not caring for our own bodies, minds and spirits contradicts the core values needed for a healthy planet. Just as we are committed to transitioning from an exploitative, extractive economy to a caring, regenerative economy, we can make our own transition to a regenerative lifestyle.
Join us at the Inner Resilience Network’s Connection Cafe for an engaging conversation about what burns you out, and learn effective tools you can use to create a rhythm for yourself that rejuvenates you while you save the world.
Wellness Educators Julia Bystrova and Tobin McKee have each spent more than 20 years helping people overcome the inner and outer obstacles that prevent us from meeting our wellness needs. Because we are both wellness consultants and activists in the Solidarity Economy and Transition movement, it is our goal to help others develop the inner resilience necessary to work effectively, without burnout, for the benefit of others.
