You were born for this time
The very experience of being born prepared you
What does it take to enter the dark passage, the narrow way?
It takes your whole self, and nothing less

Regrets and grievances cannot make it past this journey
Guilt and shame will keep you too small and tangled to enter
Anger and pride inflame your flesh
and the swelling will make you stuck in the dark way, unable to exit
But your grief can take you there
When you welcome it in
You drop all pretense and plans
Grief is honest and raw
And will shed your old skins
Release your beloveds to the unknown
Move softly through the impulse of nature's direction
Listen to its wisdom like a child
There must be you and only you, wholly you, holy you
The great wide you that bows low
That knows a tree whose roots are deep
Can spread its branches high
The you that is stripped clean and naked like a babe again
